Iberian ham helps lower cholesterol and blood pressure

Iberian ham lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, minimises the risk of thrombosis, and provides the body with vitamin E, among other benefits.

It is a heart-healthy food since it helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases, in addition to helping to maintain a healthy weight and reducing plasma lipids.

100 grams of Iberian ham contain 7 grams of saturated, or bad, fat.

One of the keys to lowering cholesterol and hypertension, and taking care of our heart in general, is to reduce saturated or bad fat intake, and this means limiting servings of meats, charcuterie, and pâtés. But this does not mean we have to completely eliminate fat and meat from our diet, and we need these nutrients, even if in small amounts.

So it is true that charcuterie consumption should be limited, but there are certain meats that we can eat, such as turkey or Serrano or Iberian ham.

Iberian ham is healthy because of its low cholesterol content which is due to the fact that the pigs graze, which allows them to feed on grass and acorns and to get more exercise, which gives the fat a high percentage of oleic acid. It is an excellent food that you should not refuse to try if you wish to have a healthy and balanced diet.

The properties of Iberian ham include:

  • High content of vitamin E, which is a natural antioxidant. The meat is considered to protect the circulatory system and the heart.
  • High in protein and with less calories than red meat, which makes it a great replacement.
  • Contains B complex vitamins and folic acid.
